The Light on the Hudsonby Dana Ferrypublished by Ithaca PressAbout Dana FerryDana Ferry is an artist and para-educator working in special education at Propel Charter Schools in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Ferry was educated at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh and worked in the graphic arts field as a typographer, proof-reader and layout artist. While at home for twelve years raising her children, Dana Ferry became very interested in writing and illustrating a children's book. Because of her love of history she decided to write a historical fiction children's book. On trips with her husband and children, Dana Ferry toured many lighthouses on Cape Cod and the Islands and in the Great Lakes region. The history of lighthouses, keepers and their families fascinated her very much. Ferry loved the Hudson River area as well. She chose the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse for the setting of her story completely unaware of the restoration of the lighthouse. She discovered this information during her extensive research. As an artist, Dana Ferry has a small business. She paints on slate per customer specifications or sells the slates at craft shows. During and after the publication of the book she will be painting the Esopus Meadows Lighthouse on slates. Dana Ferry is one of the teachers for the Art Club at the school where she work. She has supervised fifth and sixth grade students in the creating and painting of wall murals. In her free time, Dana Ferry is an avid non-fiction reader and a gardener. Ferry also plays in a hand-bell choir. Dana Ferry enjoys traveling and has visited Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Ferry lives with her husband and four children in the Pittsburgh area. |
